In his recent live Facebook chat, SharePoint Product Management Director, Jared Spataro made one statement over and over “I can’t comment on future releases.” That doesn’t mean that he didn’t drop hints or give advice for companies in the interim prior to another major release of SharePoint.
When he was asked, “Since you can’t share anything that is coming, what words of wisdom would you give to organizations for things that they should be focused on now and until the next product releases?” Spataro offered up this suggestion:
I see a lot of demand for customers who want to know “what should I do next.” I tend to answer that by thinking about “immediate business value,” “broad adoption,” and “business solutions.” My advice: Look at where you are with the platform today, establish a vision for where you’d love to be, and chart a course that systematically gets you there. Sounds simple, but the process can be amazingly helpful.
Spataro wasn’t completely mute about the future of the SharePoint, however. When asked, “As you look ahead, what are you excited about in regards to future of the product?” he said:
Looking ahead, we will continue to invest in improving the way customers share information across their organization. But if you think about where the product has been, SharePoint is really good at empowering people to share information within their organization. As we look to the future, we see some tremendous opportunities to use SharePoint in a way that lets you share information with partners and customers as easily as you do with your colleagues.
