So Thankful for SharePoint

At DynamicPoint we are very thankful to SharePoint since it is the foundation of our Expense Management, Invoice Automation and Requisition Management applications. Now don’t get me wrong the entire team is thankful for our families, our health, this country, our freedom, and I could go on and on but as we look to bring automation into the Microsoft Dynamics space SharePoint is the key piece in the development of each of our applications.

Therefore in the spirit of Thanksgiving, let me extend my thanks to just a few things about SharePoint that allow us to deliver highly configurable applications at a very low cost of ownership:

    Hi – having issues with the out of the box Dynamics GP Purchase Order Workflow system. Getting a lot of error states when submitting PO’s for approval- Microsoft tell me that the issue is SharePoint not being able to handle a large number of calls at once – and once the queue fills up it starts rejecting calls.

    This is happening on a client site and they are none too happy with it. I’m looking for alternatives. An added complication [not catered for in the out of the box workflow] is that the client uses analytical Accounting and wants to be able to code the AA analysis to a PO line in GP prior to submission for approval – and for the approver to be able to see the Line AA Code when they are approving. They can enter the AA code on the PO line without issue as this is standard GP functionality – but it does not appear on the workflow window in sharepoint when the approver is reviewing the PO for approval.

    Any thoughts on the sharepoint issue above? Have you come across it?
    Can your solutions handle the AA requirement.

    Thanks so much for your post. Regarding the issue of Requisition Manager in Business Portal being overloaded by requests and not able to handle additional workflow submissions, that is a new one for me. As I am sure you are aware, Business Portal has its own workflow capabilities and does not leverage the native workflow functionality of SharePoint (Windows Workflow Foundation). It sounds odd that you would not be able to increase the size of the workflow queue but if that is what support relayed to you then I will defer to their expertise.

    Regarding Analytical Accounting, we have integrated our product with AA codes such that they can be selected on the requisition and stored on the SharePoint form. We query Dynamics GP to ensure you can perform AA code selection at the line item level of the requisition. Upon review, each approver can see the AA code notated and depending on their rights within the review process may even be able to edit as needed.
