This month all the buzz has been about SharePoint vNext. Microsoft has now released a “Preview” of SharePoint 2013. It boasts a sleek new UI and some fancy integrations with Exchange mailboxes, other social media websites, and a new App Store. There have also been significant advances in the ways you can brand your SharePoint 2013 site.

The fastest way to get your hands on a SharePoint 2013 Preview is through the Office 365 Enterprise Preview. Just click the “Try It” link and fill out the form. You should be up and running in a few minutes.

For those of you currently using SharePoint on-premise, or if you just want to take a closer look at the back end, Microsoft offers downloads for Preview versions of SharePoint 2013 Foundation and Server as well as a redesigned SharePoint Designer 2013. If you do go down this route, be aware that the hardware requirements are a good bit beefier than in SharePoint 2010. The installation process is similar enough to 2010 that anyone who has been through a few SharePoint installations previously should be able to step through it without much difficulty. Here’s the installation and configuration guide in case you get stuck.

If you decide you want to develop against your shiny new instance of SharePoint 2013 Preview, you’ll want to check out the SharePoint Dev Center and follow this handy guide.
